<![CDATA[Dynamics D365 - Dynamics AX Blog]]>Thu, 09 May 2024 17:55:15 -0500Weebly<![CDATA[D365 F&O On-premise]]>Thu, 05 Jul 2018 18:12:30 GMThttp://axbiz.com/dynamics-ax-blog/d365-fo-on-premiseI am often asked about what is involved in deploying the D365 On-premise product. For most part it is very similar to the Cloud version. The on-premise is still deployed thru the LCS where you create the project and go thru your pre-implementation questioners. The major difference is that your SQL server, your AOS and MR reside on your servers.
Here is how AX2012 and D365 F&O On-Premise compare:
In a nutshell here is what is involved:
 • Make sure your servers are setup and ready to go. You will need the server IDs and IP addresses.
 • You will need the AAD tenant to create your LCS so make sure you have that.
 • Create your LCS project after you have purchased your licenses. Your consultant should be able to assist you with this process.
 • Deploy your LCS D365 and select the on-premise option, follow thru with the rest of the setup questions.
 • Once your setup is completed, the AOT, Load balances, SQL Server 2016, Local Storage, Power BI , SSRS and MR should all be installed on the servers you defined.
 • For development environment, you will need the VSTS and a full VS licenses for development and code customizations.

Note that you will still promote all your customizations thru the LCS and your product updates will also be managed thru the LCS platform along with your support incidences.

<![CDATA[D365 Operations and Finance (Enterprise)]]>Tue, 01 May 2018 04:40:49 GMThttp://axbiz.com/dynamics-ax-blog/d365-operations-and-finance-enterpriseIf you have been following the Microsoft's Dynamics AX evolution, like many others you are sure to be confused about D365. First the cloud only offering, then the on-prem that was AX2012 R3 CU8 and now finally D365 on-prem. This had the partners confused too and that showed in how many deals were singed and the quality of these early implementations early on.
Now that the dust has settled, we are finally begging to see good implementation results. Though many customers still ask me if D365 is a good product.
Here is what tell them. D365 is a good product however, you are much more dependent on Microsoft for many of the functions that were available to local admins in AX2012. In some ways, even some of the Microsoft techs have recognized this short coming. Here are some specific to consider:
 • Access to AOT is no longer an option in Tier 1 environments. You have to create a Dev machines and access AOT that way.
 • Data tables - Not all the tables and values are fully represented in the data migration utility.
 • Custom code move is much more complicated.
 • Simple troubleshooting and fixes like locked records now require Microsoft's help.

But D365 does offer many improvements:
 • D365 offers better out of the box workflow templates.
 • Security setup and custom roles are easier to work with.
 • You get much more enhanced functionality in several modules.
 • Azure AD is better integrated and so is the LCS.

Also it is noteworthy to mention that the tables in D365 have grown considerably going from about 8,000 in AX2012 to over 11,000 in D365.

These are just some of the observation I have noted down about D365 and there are many more. ]]>

<![CDATA[Deleting second chart of account in AX 2012]]>Thu, 01 Sep 2016 20:11:55 GMThttp://axbiz.com/dynamics-ax-blog/deleting-second-chart-of-account-in-ax-2012There are many customers facing issues in deleting a chart of account that was created by mistake. The error you get when trying to delete it from the chart of account form is something like "A financial dimension value is based on 10000 record and has been used on a transaction. You cannot delete the 10000 record."

This is because in AX2012 when you create a chart of account and associate main accounts to it, in the AOT dimension combinations are created because the main account by AX is considered a dimension. The dimension combinations in turn are considered by AX as a transaction.

So how do you delete it without messing up the rest of the accounts? If not done correctly, you may delete the account combinations that you need to keep. It is a risky proposition. Luckily we have identified the following steps to help you:
 1. Manually change the bad chart of accounts account name have an X in from (so they can easily be identified and filtered from good chart of accounts
 2. Delete the X account entries from DimensionAttributeLevelValue table
 3. Delete the Bad COA from LedgerChartOfAccounts table
 4. Test each transaction stream thoroughly.

<![CDATA[Dynamics AX 2012 R3 Credit Cards]]>Sat, 07 Nov 2015 03:19:05 GMThttp://axbiz.com/dynamics-ax-blog/dynamics-ax-2012-r3-credit-cards

Dynamics AX 2012 R2 and R3 offer good built in functionality for credit card processing for sales orders.

The functionality uses MSPS gate way and can integrate with several of the popular processors including Bank of America and First Data. The service is provisioned thru your partner.

The great feature about the functionality is that it can authorized and then reauthorized for partial shipments automatically for remainder of the sales order amount without having to manually manage reauthorization. This reduces your risk of non-payment or NSF.

Another great feature is that if offers level 2 for most processors and in come cases level 3 credit card processing so you can drive for lower processing fees from your merchant service provider.

We have implement this functionality for our customers successfully. Please contact us if we can assist you.
